A hand-coloured Russian woodcut: a great striped cat sits looking out with round orange eyes, its tail curled in a red spiral on its haunch, flowers about it. The caption reads: Kot Kazanskoi, a um Strakhanskoi, razum Sibirskoi, slavno zhil, slatko el, slapko bzdel. The Cat of Kazan, with the mind of Astrakhan and the wit of Siberia, lived grandly, ate sweetly, farted weakly.

Touch a mouse’s lane, or turn the bum down it, and as it reaches its ring hold its colour.
